I am trying to search both my C drive and my D drive in Windows XP. When I
click on indexing options there is no 'my computer icon' and certainly no C
or D drive to be seen

Thanks, but this doesn't really help at this stage, as the search function
will not allow me to search those drives until I set it up in indexing
options. The trouble is, those drives (C & D) just do not appear in indexing
options (I've been through every conceivable sub-menu in indexing options to
check).
I've also been into the properties of those drives to check the indexing box
