Default can media player 9 play dvd's?

Hi,
I tried to play a dvd on my xp home with media player 9 on it and it said it
didn't have a codec for it and asked if i wanted to check on the web so i
said yes and it took me to a site that was talking about vista.
Can meadia player 9 play dvd's?

No, media player can not play DVD without 3rd party help.

Yes, but ... as in all versions, it requires a codec to do so. It would be
easier to use div/x or some similar free app to watch DVDs.
I don't know what the status is today, but you used tohave to pay for the
codecs a few years back. I just lucked out and happened to have one that
came with a video editing app. At that time I had V9. Haven't gone to 11
yet; don't like the changes & nothing new added that interests me now.
