Some yes (e.g. Open Office), others no (e.g. MS NET)
so you must find out for yourself. One way of doing so is
to rename on a trial basis bulky subfolders of c:\Program Files
with a prefix x e.g. c:\Program Files\xProgname. Then normal
reboot and normal functioning indicates you can probably
uninstal this software (after first correcting the name.)

Other methods to get more disk space are:
1. MS Disk Cleanup (deleting Temp Internet Files etc.)
2. Reassigning Virtual Memory (swap file WIN386.SWP)
to a different drive than C:
3. File compression.
4. Adding another drive (nowadays cheap.)

You can uninstall unwanted applications but you may not gain much disk
space.

More effective would be to reduce the size of system restore...
it's usually set *way* too high...
probably moving it down to 600megs or so would suffice.

Also if you have a "desktop" and do not use hibernation...
turn that off to gain some free space
