Burning backup discs problem

When I try to burn a disc on Windows Media Player/ACDC or any other medium the computer blacks out, reboots then I get a fatal error message, what could the problem be?

Have same thing. Only didn't have shut down and had to improperly close
Windows by unplugging everything as I had no screen icons or taskbar. Got
fatal error and recovery. I did change my power options to turn system off
properly when I hit power switch to avoid a repeat.
