Unplug the speaker connector that is going from the computer to the monitor.

Must have one........... tell us the monitor brand & model?
Sound has to get to the monitor somehow.

Is the sound coming from both speakers at the same time or is it that some
sounds come from the computer speaker and other sounds come from the power
speakers?

Normally there are three speaker systems; the computer speaker, the power
speakers and the modem speaker. They each serve a purpose.
