Backup selected files utility

Hello,

I am looking for a PC application that will go through selected
folders, and copy files that have creation date greater than xxxx to
another folder.

This will automate a backup process by only backing up new files, and
leaving old files alone.

Apple offer a freeware download to do this:

Is there a PC based solution?

Seems the backup program in Windows XP backs up all files that are selected.

The commercial programs will offer a choice of "just new files" to be backed
up. I don't know of a freebee that will do want you want.

Give google a search and try out what comes up. Or, standby for more helpful
suggestions.

Do you really want to do this by date or do you only want to backup new
and changed files regardless of creation date? The later is the
preferred method and much easier than trying to keep track of backup
dates and so on. It's called "Incremental Backup". All Backup
utilities can do this, you can just use the backup utility supplied with
Windows XP to do this. See here:

If you really absolutely want to do this specifically by date then let
us know and we can suggest other options, or you can use command line
tools like Xcopy or Robocopy.

I would like to backup by the second method you mention John - ie. by
creation date.

Is it possible to for files that are to be backed-up to be placed in
mirror image folders in the backup location. An example:

Folder A
======
Sub Folder B
==========
File 1
File 2

File 2 is only needed to be backed up.

Therefore in the backup location, the following is created:

Folder A
======
Sub Folder B
==========
File 2

xcopy "x:\Folder A\Sub Folder B\File 2" "z:\Folder A\Sub Folder B\File
2" /d:mm-dd-yyyy /y

x & z are drive letter. In commands you have to use quotation marks to
surround the path when there are spaces in the path: "c:\path with
spaces" "d:\other path with spaces"

Yes. XP's native backup program. It's on the CD in Home versions. Also
available from MS if some idiot OEMer took it out on you.
