I have the Auto updates set to download and install. The problem is the
updates do get downloaded to the computer but when the computer tries to
install them the install fails. I have over 60 upgrades that are not
installed. If I download them manually and then install them they get
installed. When I go to the update site it shows I need 60 updates and I can
download them but when they try to get installed they fail to install. Any
ideas or help would be welcomed.

HTH,
Thanks for the help. Went to the site and they had 10 ways to fix the
problem. Did all ten of them and I still cannot install the updates. The
auto update does download them all and then when it tries to install them it
fails and just gives the message "Failed to install 51 updates". I have sent
an email to Microsoft but no help as yet.

Have you performed a repair installation recently? If so, see
if the information in this article helps.
Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you
repair a Windows XP installation http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144
Thanks,
I sent an email to the Microsoft download help and they told me to download
the file at http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe
I ran that file and it downloaded an update program which I installed and
now the updates get downloaded and installed. Fixed up the problem.
Thanks for the help.

I had this problem for a while so I changed my commands to just let me know
that updates are available and I downloaded and installed them one at a
time. That solved my problem.
As for your having 60 updates on hold, why did you wait so long to get help
to solve this problem? You may have to delete them all and download them one
at a time to install them correctly.
