My start menu has only two columns. How can I edit the registry to add more
columns ? Thanks.

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish but see if this
helps.

Right click on your Start button and select Properties from the
menu.
Click on the Start menu tab.
On the Start menu page, hit the Customize button.
If you're using the Windows XP style Start menu, do the
following.
In Customize Start Menu, click on the Advanced tab.
In the Start menu items box, remove the check mark from the box
next to "Scroll programs".
If you're using the Classic Start menu, uncheck "Scroll
programs" in the Advanced start menu items box.
Click OK.

You should now see multiple columns listing your installed
programs.

Good luck

Avoid undocumented solutions such as editing the registry in an undocumented
manner. I am not saying to never edit the registry in an undocumented
manner, but don't blame Microsoft if your system behaves strangely if you do
make undocumented changes. Also don't expect to be able to get help from
others if you make undocumented changes that you forget to mention or that
you don't think are related to problems.
