I recently downloaded and installed the final release of Service Pack 1 for
Windows Vista Home Premium x86. Since doing that I have seen that Windows is
running slow and am havi issues connecting a Treo 700wx to Windows. Not that
long ago I have tried the following in this order:
1. Deleted the partnership on the device
2. Restarted the device
3. Deleted the partnership in WMDC 6.1
4. Uninstalled WMDC 6.1
5. Restarted Windows Vista
6. Installed WMDC 6.1
7. Connected the device
8. Created a new partnership
It stay connected for about 2 minutes at the most and thats it. I did a
hard (factory) reset 2 or 3 days ago. The only thing that was put back on
the device is my contacts. I have the current software from Verizon (1.22)
on the device cause it came with it.
Then I think found out that it has something to do with the WMDC 6.1
software. I found this out by doing the following:
1. disconnected the device from my laptop
2. uninstalled WMDC from Windows
3. restarted Windows
4. deleted partnership on device
5. restarted the device
I plugged the device into the USB port (WITHOUT installing WMDC) and it
immediately connected to the internet. Then the Windows Update thing popped
up saying that I had new updates. I looked at it and it had the following
update:
NOTE: I did not make a typo with the word "sofware". I went to the listed
update and right clicked on it and clicked on copy details and pasted it here.
Then I went to the website under More information and Help & Support and I
did not understand what was on those sites.
I did notice that after I installed Service Pack 1 that is when my laptop
started running a little slower and the issues with WMDC started. This is
personal home laptop. I don't know what this update is, what it is for, or
if I need it.
I found out if I connect the device to my laptop to do things that don't
need WMDC then it connects fine, but if I need to connect the device to do
things that need WMDC then that is when I start having problems.
I don't know if it is a problem with my laptop, Windows Vista Home Premium
x86, Service Pack 1, the device, or Windows Mobile 5. I would like to know
what the problem is so I know what people I need to talk to in order to fix
it.
