Default Windows Vista Business Edition - Sysem Restore

I keep getting a "System Restore Failed" message everytime I try to restore
to an earlier restore point. Is anyone else having problems with this
feature and if so are there any known fixes?

Go to the following website.

System Restore in Windows Vista::
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/vista.html

Bert has information and fixes for just about all known issues with System
Restore in Vista.

Ron, in previous versions, as you are aware, such a problem was often
attributed to corrupted information in the SR datastore and corrected by
turning System Restore off, rebooting and turning it back on. This wiped
out all restore points but fixed the issue going forward.

Does this no longer apply in Vista?

Hi Michael

I think it does still apply, although I haven't kept up with the SR issues
on Vista. I usually just direct evryone to Berts website.

When XP first launched corruption was the most common cause of restore point
failure. Today it's application such as *Norton* and others that interfere
with the operation of System Restore. Rather than deleting all existing
restore point right off, I suggest try running System Restore from Safe
Mode. A lot of times this works without loosing restore points.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to take when System Restore fails to
restore:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srfail.html

"Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored . . . "
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/symantecdoc1.html

It appears System Restore in Vista is effected by *Norton* application in
the similar way it was in XP. The error message will differ thou.
