When I want to copy a number of files, none of the multiple select methods
work: Select All is grey, click a file - hold down Shift and select another
to get a range and only the last clicked is selected, CRTL + select multiple
times just selects the last clicked.
I am using a Sony labtop, VGN-C240E, with a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer
3.0 USB. The computer did not come with backups of the system software,
Vista Home Professional, so I can't just reinstall Windows Explorer.

This is a known bug that MS is currently investigating. A workaround you
can use if you get into this state is to delete the Bags and BagMRU
Keys. This will reset the per user view state for all folder views. This
key is located at HKCU\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\
You need to delete everything under and including the BagMRU and Bags
keys in order to reset your viewstate.
MVP Keith Miller has written a script to fix this so you don't need to
mess about in the Registry yourself:
This MS Knowledge Base article may also be applicable:
You cannot use keyboard shortcuts to select more than one item in
Windows Explorer after you install certain applications on a Windows
Vista-based computer
The script fixed the problem. Thanks! The Sony on-line "chat" people could
only tell me to do a System Restore! I can see why you guys are MVP's.

It's sweet of you to say nice things. :-) I'm sure that Keith will be
pleased his script helped you.
