Default Will Businesses Skip Windows Vista Altogether?

"With Microsoft planning to release the next version of Windows, code-named
Windows 7, in late 2009 or 2010, there remains a strong possibility that
businesses might skip over Vista altogether."

The article was talking about real businesses, not your multilevel scam
that you run from your kitchen table.

With Microsoft "Planning to ship late 2009 or 2010" means it really will
probably ship late 2011 or 2012. They are notoriously late with OS
shipments, and always have been. I think the last one that was released on
time was Windows NT 3.51. And a fine OS it was, I remember it fondly.

Guess this article means nothing to you then....

"Report: One-third of businesses to begin Vista deployments by mid-2008"
http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=948&tag=nl.e539

Better luck next time, Linux. Maybe you can make some inroads when Windows 7
comes out.

That is not what it said.

"Forrester’s latest research — based on a survey of 1,001 “hardware
decision makers at North American and European enterprises — concluded that
by mid-2008, Windows Vista will be deployed across at least one-quarter of
PCs."

What that means I don't know, and probably written purposely to be unclear.

Does it mean 1/4 of 1,001 (250.25) companies will install on all the PC's ?

Does it mean all of them will be installing on 25% of their PC's ?

Besides, this is probably just another study from Forrester Research that
was commisioned by Microsoft, which of course will be favorable.

I'm not arguing either way, just stating they 'gray area' of this study.

Funny thing, I saw that same blog that said 25%, not 1/3.

Also, on this page...

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,13...1/article.html

There is this statement...

"A study by Forrester Research shows that 52% of respondents have no
plans to roll out Vista or don't know when they might do it. The study
shows 11% don't plan to start a roll out until 2009 and another 6% are
waiting until 2010."

I was looking around for 'studies' to contradict the first mentioned,
then ran across this one.

Apparently Forrester Research will say anything you want as long as you
are paying for the study.

Many businesses skipped XP too. I personally know of one larger oil
company with a written policy to only upgrade as support is
discontinued, and then only to the "most mature" product supported by
the vendor.

Some have already switched.
