Default What is the consensus? Avoid SP1?

I guess I'm hearing that SP1 should not be installed right now.

Is that what everyone is more or less saying?

My experience so far is bad.

Zone Alarm quit working and my NIC card quit working.
My Dell is only 5 months old....drivers should NOT be an issue
especially since I'm using a brand name Intel Nic .

Why would MS put SP1 up on their webpage if they knew it still has
major issues?

I don't get it....for now...I'm trying to figure out how to uninstall
it.

Grrrr..

Respectfully,

Trev

I doubt you will get a consensus. I installed SP1 on two different computers
with no problem once I updated the drivers that were considered a problem. I
do find it a little faster. The changes to search (prompted by a potential
law suit) I don't like but there seem to be enough work-arounds on the WEB.

There was clear warning in advance about that. Checkpoint has Vista
SP1-compatible updates on their web site.

Have you checked with Dell and/or Intel for new drivers?

It's the drivers and applications vendors that have the issues, not
Vista.

Can't you just uninstall it from the Control Panel?

No problems here. SP1 installed with no problems whatsoever.

are u sure that's not the placebo effect? I can't find a single
function that is quicker. Can u provide me a couple of specific
functions that seem quicker?

I have installed on my machine (machine is 3 months old) and it installed
fine. Previous to that I installed it on my old machine (4 years old)
running Vista Ultimate and it installed fine on that too. Perhaps I am one
of the lucky ones, but even when beta testing SP1 my experience of problems
was virtually nil.

I installed on two seperate machines at the same time - office and home
office. Never do that again. Neither one will reboot, neither one can be
repaired with the VISTA ultimate disk, neither one will work with system
restore, which ran for 24 hours before the black screen with crazy
characters. Just did a complete reinstall of the OS and ALL programs, files
and settings 2 weeks ago. I get to do it all over again. Don't install
without a major backup. Also, the free SP1 link for Microsoft help hasn't
worked and I've tried it on 4 computers - unknown application error.
