I have an 8x12 Wacom Intuos 3 graphics tablet (USB). I am running Windows
Vista Ultimate. My problem is that when Windows pops up a UAC permission
dialog box the tablets mouse stops working and I have to use the keyboard
arrow keys to clear out the dialog box.
I have contacted Wacom and was told that this is how it is supposed to work
because when the UAC dialog boxes come up they shift Windows in to a mode
that the drivers (for the tablet) do not function. If I turn UAC off I don't
have any driver issues and I only have drivers issues when the UAC dialogs
are up.
Any suggestions on how to deal with this? As it is right now it makes Vista
much less thrilling and makes the Wacom Intuos 3 mouse worthless. I hate
having to move over to the keyboard to clear a simple dialog box. Any chance
Microsoft is going to address this? I would think that this would annoy all
tablet users as well as tablet PC users.

Yeah, I have a Wacom Intuos as well, but this issue doesn't bother me so
much as I only use the pen within programs like Photoshop or Corel Painter.
What you can do is either disable UAC, or preferably, make the most of the
prompts auto-elevate, like I have. This keeps UAC running, so Program Files
is still protected, IE7 still runs in Protected Mode, etc.. but you lose the
security of the annoying UAC prompts. However, the Security Centre still
says that UAC is not running, even though it is.
Of course, don't do this if you are one of these people that think that UAC
is their saviour, as they get all sorts of malware otherwise, and I don't
think that you will be able to do this if you are using a Home version of
Vista.

I disagree UAC is causing this and Microsoft hasn't allowed other companies
like Wacom a way around it so that their drivers function at all times.
Microsoft should have done a better job with UAC. The more I use it the more
I realize that UAC works the way to does to keep your computer safe.
Microsoft decided to do this instead of smashing bugs and security holes.
Now you may see UAC as the fix for security I don't. The same old problems
are there, they just slapped some new paint on them.
