Default Vista USB Performance

Howdy All,

Just done a full reinstall of Vista Home Premium. Everything was working
fine, just wanted to go back to a clean slate. However....

Since reinstalling, and setting up my Wireless Desktop 7000 kit, the mouse
is fubar'd. It seems to start off ok, then it stutters like crazy after a
while.

I have tried to download the Reliability update for USB stack in Windows
Vista 32-bit (KB925528), but it says it doesn't apply to my setup.

I have noticed that my external USB 2.0 disk seems to stutter like mad too.

Anyone else had these problems?

Cheers,
phunky

Default RE: Vista USB Performance

I certainly am having problems with the performance of my MS wireless 8000,
but I am unsure if it is like yours. What is fubar'd?

My problem is that after a while the mouse begins selecting without
clicking. Just a hover makes a selection, and not one! It is repetitive and
unstopable. is this you?

Is this only in Windows Explorer / desktop? Try, from Explorer, looking
under Organise menu > Folder and Search Options > General tab. It sounds
like you have "Single-click to open an item (point to select)" selected.

If that's not it, you could try changing the batteries in the mouse -
they sometimes do strange things when the batteries are low.

Are you connecting these devices through a hub? If so, it may need to be
powered.

Mark,
Yes, that was my 1st idea the day this Dell XPS arrived and started this
with my old Logitech wireless. I replaced it with the MS 8000 and all was
well for 1.5 months. Now it has started again. Two calls to Dell yielded a
new ATI driver, and a new BIOS. Also we changed the Bluetooth receiver from
the rear of tower to the monitor, and then to the keyboard. We also reloaded
the 6.1 Intelli drivers, reloaded the stability update, and unloaded Defender.
What really is frustrating is the unpredictibility of this issue. I will
think it is gone and then there it is.
