Default Vista startup programs

How do you stop certain programs from automatically starting when the
computer is turned on?

Easy...just go to run/msconfig/startup and take the check mark out of
whatever you don't want to start when you first boot up.

But before you do that, look to the programs themselves. Some have
configuration options to start when Windows starts. Disable them there.

If you do mess with MSCONFIG, the next boot will bring up a prompt that
changes have been made. Check the box in that prompt if you do not want
to be prompted again.

Using msconfig i would suggest to be a last resort fix, Might be an idea to
check the preferences or properties tabs of the running programs first to see
if there is an option to not start with windows.
For example both MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger both have options under
the preferences to set to not startup with windows.
