Default Vista restart sutdown issue

When I click shutdown or restart from the start menu, it won't.

When I click restart now after installing or updating, it won't.

Nothing happens. No black screen. no anything. Just stays where it's at -
like I never clicked restart or shutdown.

I've waited. And waited. Nothing happens.

I have to manualy turn off the computer at the on off button.

Problem has been going on for a few months.

Please help.

I would take a look at the Policy in force on that, Click Start orb, type:
GPEdit.msc

You may find a setting that disables shutdown.
There is a site for XP that may have something to help you.
A shutdown troubleshooter http://aumha.org/a/shtdwnxp.htm

Hi,

Open Task Manager (use whatever means you like) and start by disabling
anything on the Applications tab, then start selectively disabling lines on
the processes screen (make sure to enable the box to show processes from all
users), retrying the shutdown command inbetween each until it works.
Whatever one you disabled last will probably be the source of the problem.
