i have a wireless keyboard. On that keyboard is a button with a picture of a
crescent moon.
in windows 2000, windows xp and server 2003, i can configure that button in
the power options so with 1 press it shuts down my computer (complete power
off), and thats the way i like it.
I go into power options and select the option "turn off my computer" in the
"when i press the sleep button" drop down menu.
Vista has stolen this function from me. I go into control panel and into the
power options, and all i can do with the sleep button is set it to hibernate
or set my computer to go to sleep mode. I have been through all the options
in the advanced boxes and there is not "turn off option".
If i look at the options available for the power button i have the shutdown
option in there, but the shutdown option is not given as an option for the
sleep button.
i have tried using both the keyboard software rom the manufacturer, and
microsofts intellitype, but neither make any changes, its still seen as a
sleep button.
If anyone has had anything similar please let me know, especially if you
have solved it, otherwise its me and a copy of regmon and filemon and a
wasted evening trying to solve this when i could be trying to drink the local
pub dry instead.

Cheers for the hint, would you care to elaborate which power settings in the
BIOS need tweaking?
Thanks very much

Thanks for the reply Guy.
unfortunately the button i am using is not classified as a power button, but
as a sleep button.
I have those exact same functions available for selection for my power button.
but for my sleep button i do not have the shut down option
