I have a Canon camera. I have tried uninstalling a Canon program from the
control panel. It will not uninstall. I have tried using the uninstall.exe
from the Common Files/Canon. It won't uninstall. Canon couldn't help me at
all. We tried several different things, even a system restore. Nothing
works. Any suggestions?

Hello Helen,
Have you tried "Take ownership of an item" option? If not , Here is the
link : http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67...ship-file.html
After you have it installed, go to that Canon program, right click on it,
click Take Ownership, then unintall it.
Let me know if it works or not.
I've tried it. Doesn't work. It doesn't allow me to repair. I've have
installed and uninstalled. I've even done a system restore. Nothing will
allow me to uninstall that program.

There is always the extreme measure: go into the registry and delete
every reference to the program and/or the camera.
I clicked on the link and I'm so confused I have no idea what to do. First
of all, do I have to download something to do this??? Second, he starts
listing things as related links, then he comes to METHOD ONE: Automatic Way:
Through the Context (right click) Menu: 1. See How to take ownership to the
contex menu in Vista. WHAT IS THE CONTEXT?????? I'm trying to get rid of a
folder in my control panel under programs. I'm not sure what these
directions point to.

Also, where am I supposed to take ownership of this program??? In the
control panel??? I'm not a computer person. I don't know about all this
stuff. The entire tutorial was like greek to me. There are so many things
listed I have no idea which one I'm supposed to do.

For somebody that is ' not a computer person ' you seem to know a lot.
You know where to find an uninstall.exe file outside of Control Panel.
That means you know your way around using Explorer and you know about exe files.
And then you ask " What is the Context ????"
It's strange how you found this exe file in the Common Files/Canon folder. My Vista doesn't
have a Common Files tree.
