Has anyone tried Sygate 5.6 on Vista? was goign to recommend this to
a friend - but since I'm still on XP, thought I'd check if it's
compatible, yep I know it's no longer around ( officially ), but it's
still the best I'v used! so if it's ok for Vista.... will suggest it.
assuming of course the inbuilt one is not up to the job - is it?

If it doesn't say that it's Vista compatible, then you should leave it
alone, otherwise, you're asking for trouble. The Vista FW packet filter is
a fine FW packet filter solution, if you take the time to seek out the
features that the Vista FW/packet filter has to offer.
However, there are other FW/packet filters that are compatible with Vista as
well.

Highly unlikely to work on Vista, but it's a pity it's no longer around. It
had a number of nifty features, such as the ability to open up the contents
of individual packets in text format to inspect them.

It doesn't work on Vista. The new Zone Alarm for Vista seems to work OK.

You and your friend could do some reading before committing to
phoney-baloney ware because you are not going to find anything better than
the Vista FW and Vista in itself due to the advanced features the FW and
Vista are using.
