Default Sudden shutdown

Hi,
I have a new Inspiron 1501 with vista. It shuts down all of a sudden, I
don't have a clue why...watchen a DVD, surfing the net, whatever. Jst a black
screen, some colorful stripes, thats it. How can I figure out if it is a
hardware problem (too hot, perhaps fan not working?) or a software issue??

Thanks,

Hi,

By default, the power scheme is set to turn off the monitor after 20
minutes.

In the start/search box, type power options, hit enter, then change your
preferred plan settings.

Hi,

thanks a lot. I changed it, we will see if it will help. But when I start
the computer again, it says that windows was not shut down properly. It looks
more like a crash. Can I check if the thing gets too hot?

I want to say its overheating. My last laptop I worked with; when placed in
my "lap" I would block the fans from cooling and it would shut off a lot,
unless I placed something under it. Same thing happened with my PC, it would
restart a lot for no reason, Cleaned out the fans and it doesn’t do it
anymore. I think this problem may come from the BIOS (turn on computer press
DEL or F8 or what ever button you gotta press to enter setup) it will have a
TEMP option where it will shutoff/restart when it gets to hot. You can
disable that. But you may want to check to see if the fans are working.

Have you charged the battery?
