Default strange behaviour in excel after SP1

Since installing SP1 (no obvious problems), one Excel spreadsheet on closing
now tries to connect to the internet. If I tell Zone Alarm to deny access,
closing this one sheet takes at least 15 secs. If I allow access, closing is
immediate. No other sheet does this.

The Destination IPs are

192.168.1.1:53 voyager220v.home (the configuration manager for my
modem)
207.68.183.124:53 weather.service.us.chan.msn.com.nsatc.net (can't find
the page in msn.com or IE cannot display the web page Some content or files
on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.)
213.199.161.250:53 urs.microsoft.com.nsatc.net {IE cannot display the web
page. Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't
have installed.)

Has MS installed spyware in SP1? Why only one Excel sheet? Should I just let
Excel connect to the web? (the content of the sheet is an inventory of my
house - not much interest to MS or my ISP modem supplier!)

Spybot S & D, Defender and AVG anti virus all come up clean. Vista firewall
shut down, Zone Alarm Free firewall running.

Any comments O gurus out there?

Hi,

I doubt it has anything to do with SP1. One of Excel's feature's is to
update cell data from an outside source automatically. I suspect this
feature is enabled in your spreadsheet and you merely need to disable it.
Why or how it was enabled I do not know, as it was done either during
creation or subsequent editing, but I'd suspect this is the problem. How you
fix it depends on the version in use, but ofter opening it check under
data/connections.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the suggestions, tried looking under Data - no "connections" or
obvious looking options, tried looking in all the toolbar - no "connections"
or indeed any likely looking option.

In the finish, I copied sheet by sheet (17 of them) to a new workbook. This
seems to have done the trick. No more ZA warnings.

I can only blame the wife, since it's her workbook and I don't touch it. (in
spite of the inelegant formatting) ) Since I only installed ZA within the
last couple of days maybe "'er downstairs" hadn't opened this workbook since
my installing ZA and the workbook had always been phoning home, but Vista
firewall doesn't give warnings, just works in the background.

Incidentally using Office XP Pro version. I realise it's not Vista proof,
but it seems to work and I'm too tight to buy a Vista proof upgrade.

Anyway thanks for your interest.
