Hi PtC,
In the Sound Scheme window, just uncheck the "Play Windows Startup
sound", and change the sound to what you want for the "Windows Logon"
instead. It will then play that right before you go to your desktop.
This will show you how.

Nope. It's not changeable that way in Vista, if I remember correctly. I
think they want it to be part of the Vista branding or some crap like that.
Maybe you can change it by replacing the default sound file with another
with the same name. Might be worth a try.

Start>>Control Panel>>Hardware and Sounds>>Change System Sounds>>Sound
Go down the list and find Windows Logon>>Browse
At this point you will get a list of files in this folder: C:\Windows\Media\
All the files listed there are .wav files. However, there is a chance that
if you navigate yourselves from this folder to a different one by clicking
some items in the left pane you can select a wma or even midi file and it
will take it. Or you can definitely select a wav file in a different folder
with some music if you have that.

There is hardly a better evidence of your idiotic disposition, my dear
annelid than this post of yours.

Alas, I am having the same problem. I looked at the default wav files and i
looked at mine and they appear the same. Mine is just a short 4 second
soundbyte wav file. It used to work back in Windows 2000. Any other
thoughts or solutions?
