Default Spooler App Not Working

Hi, I have a problem that neither Microsoft nor HP can solve. Vista
suddenly deleted my HP printer from my h.d., and gives me frequent
on-screen messages that Spooler Sub App is not working. When I click on
its icon to search the net to solve the problem, nothing happens. HP
says that it is a Microsoft problem. Microsoft wants $55 per half hour
just to talk with me, with no guarantee of help. Another newsgroup had a
post on this that downloading HP software/drivers from the net won't
help, but downloading from HP's CD will help.HP says that the CD is not
available.Downloading from their web site gives a fatal error. So, I'm
stuck now. My printer is good, and I have about $200.- in ink cartridges
for it in my closet. In addition, i don't know if a bought a new
printer, if it would work with my Vista laptop.

My printer works on my old XP laptop, but all my photos and e-mails and
bookmarks are on my newer Vista Home Premium laptop.

Ironically, I did a full external backup one day before this problem
occurred, but my backup software on my PC also stopped working, so that
I cannot do a restore.

Any help on this spooler Sub App problem will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Morton

Have you tried System Restore to a Restore Point dated before the problem
occurred?

There is also an option in the F8 boot screen to restore to the last known
good configuration. I think (not sure) that one can't be undone, unlike a
regular System Restore.

Have you tried SFC (System File Checker)?

For a temporary work-around, you could share the photos etc. across the
network and print them from the XP computer...
