Before installing SP1 I want to do some preparation (e.g. arrange back up of
my data files, etc). Currently, I have my Windows auto-update system set to
advise me when updates are available and I have been notified that some are
waiting. How can I prevent the auto update system from downloading SP1? I
seem to recall that you are not given the opportunity to choose whether or
not you want to download a particular update.
Any advice would be appreciated

Open Automaitc Updates from the programs menu, under the "install" button
click on the line to "view available updates". Here you can select/deselect
the updates you want installed.

Right click on the update (SP1) and hide it. You can unhide it when you want
to install.
