Default Sound Card for Vista

I posted this a while back but it never showed up, so here I go again.
A while back someone posted here saying that Creative Audigy 4 sound card
worked <giving good sound> with Vista. My system is old and not worth
investing a great deal for a high end sound card. There are several
versions of the Creative Audigy 4 Sound card with prices ranging from $30-
$275. What I would like to know is which of the Audigy 4 cards work with
Vista.

Thank you

Check the Creative web site or call their support line.

Have you run the Windows Upgrade Advisor? You may find many other components
of your system that will require replacement. If your system is "that old"
I would recommend that you don't upgrade to Vista unless you have a new
piece of hardware that requires it, which is highly unlikely.

The cheapest will probably be fine, you'll probably find the more expensive
ones would be likely to have more issues as they require more driver
features.

I use an Audigy 2 ZS without issues here, you might also want to look at the
X-Fi, which is Creative's newest card, and judging on Creative's past
history will probably have the best support going forward.

Thanks for the reply and I will do some more looking. LOL calling Creative
is real experience. I have the live 5! now but as soon as I told them I had
NOT installed one of their cards within the last year, they hung up. I
guess they have the sales they can handle.

I'm using the inexpensive Audigy SE (about $30 at Office Depot), which
works fine for me with the latest driver and software downloaded from here:

What X-Fi headaches? Other than the SPDIF output being flakey, I don't have any
problems.
