Default 'Sigma Tel High Definition Audio

Installed Vista over XP. No sound. New drivers, old drivers, nothing
helped.

I need suggestions about how to get sound.

I also have Sigma Tel and have had no problems whatsoever. You should first
make sure your audio is enabled and that you have selected this device for
your sound. I would suggest you reformat your hard drive and do a CLEAN
install of Vista. Have a nice day.

I have the same and Vista install was good with sound. There was a Windows
Update for Sigma Tel after which I lost sound. Had to restore. This
behaviour is very Vista like. No much works with Vista and the constant
suggestion that the cure for everything is CLEAN install is just wrong. How
about if MS gets their act together. Vista and all the surrounding problems
is on the verge of criminal incompentence.

A clean install is not a "cure for everything" as you stated. It is simply
the only prudent way to install any software, whether it is a repair install
or an upgrade install. Why incorporate the old within the new? You don't wear
a new pair of pants over your old and/or dirty pants. You remove the old
first. Why should software be any different?

P.S. Next Time Try A Clean Install Instead, It Works 100% Better Than An
Upgrade, Just FYI.
