I have hotmail and cannot use the send by link option in internet explorer.
It says hotmail is not supported so what can I do? By the way, I hat Vista.

Sorry, I use HM too and I don't know what the "send by link" option is...
could you explain further?
Lang, in the top right hand side of IE7 you see: "home, rss, printer, page,
tools".
If you click on "page" you can email a link to the web page that you are
viewing, to your friends
It only works with the default email program that is installed: Like Outlook
Express and Outlook in XP, windows Mail and Outlook in Vista.
It won't work in Hotmail as Hotmail is on a web based Server, not your
computer.

Will it work with the email components of Opera or Firefox, I wonder? I'm
guessing not.
I don't use the email functionality of either, so I'm only vaguely aware of
how they work.
Bottom line, though, is that this won't work with any web-based email
program, such as G-mail, right? It's not just a Hotmail issue.

Download Firefox from mozilla, com and use that broser.
I have not used Firefox since XP, and have never tried Thunderbird or G-mail.
Thinking about it, if the email program(Hotmail, Yahoo, etc) does not reside
in our computer, how on earth can we tie the web based ones into it?
We can't make it the default if it is not there!
We also have to sign into them; I know we can leave automatic sign in on, but!

With some webmail you can't but Gmail, for instance,
has a POP feature that allows simultaneous Web
and Email client access.
Which makes Gmail very handy since it frees you from
a) being tied to a particular ISP
b) being tied to a particular computer of access method
So you can have all the benefits of an email client
and still be able to accessed your mail on the road,
eg. in a public library, friends pc or somesuch.
and be able to switch ISP conveniently.

Mick,
I wonder if Ramesh's email downstream in this thread would address the
issue?
