New installation of Vista with all updates. Typing any program name (e.g.,
Word, Roxio, Excel) in the "start search" field produces listing grouped as
Favorites, then Files then Communications but NEVER lists any shortcuts to
programs. Even if the program is listed above the search field (recent
programs used list)! The indexing control panel has even been reset to all
defaults. Help!
Nothing has changed from XP to create shortcuts!!!
Start>Programs> right-click on the one you want a shortcut for> Send To>
Create a shortcut on the desktop!

Try this:
- Right-click the Start Button, then select Properties
- In the Start Menu tab, click Customize
- Scroll the list of options to almost the bottom, and make sure that
the "Search Programs" option is turned on.

Thanks so much, that was it. I thought I was turning off the Search item on
the right side of the fly-up!

Think you misunderstood the question. Dzomlija had the answer.
Thanks though.
