Default SD Cards...again

Others have had similar questions - I have a DELL Inspiron 6400 running
Vista. I put an SD Card into the slot to copy pictures, but my system
doesn't recognize it at all. Nothing in my drives or any indication that this
slot exists at all. I've gone through Control Panel and also rebooted, but
nothing has changed. I can't believe reading an SD card can be very
complicated - anyone have suggestions that would make this card 'appear' for
me? Thanks.

I have the correct hardware too since I dual boot with XP, the card reader
works fine and fast with XP but not with vista.
I end up booting more and more to XP, and sometimes I get bored and remain
there, using my new vista less
HELP!
