Default Safe Mode Boot Up Screen

Hi all,

Just a quick question, at times when my machine locks up and only resort is
to shut it down manually, upon booting it back up i get the typical "safe
boot" screen, gives me 3 option, 1:safe mode with networking, start windows
normally etc...THING IS i cannot seem to select either option by using the
arrow keys, the whole screen just locks up and doesnt give me a choice , i
still see the countdown timer which is luckily set at "start windows
normally" and it boots up fine, but im concerned in the event that something
does happen and i have to select one of the other options, how would i do it,
and yes..my keyboard does be plugged in.

Just an educated guess . . .

I'm going to 'guess' you're using an USB keyboard, and also going to 'guess'
that you have USB Legacy turned off in your BIOS.

The drivers for the USB ports aren't loaded when you see the option screen,
so your keyboard isn't recognized at that point.

They system is not 'locked up' since the countdown is still running and your
system completes the boot process.

You should, however, be able to go into the BIOS using the USB keyboard even
though USB legacy is turned off, since most (I'm guessing all at this point)
BIOSes these days well recognize the USB keyboard during POST, and within
setup.

During the POST, press 'del' or F1 or F2 and look for the USB Legacy option,
turn it on, your keyboard will then be responsive during the option screen.

If I'm incorrect about you're using an USB keyboard, then I'm stumped. :-)
