Running vista, and my desktop went black, and desktop icon went aw

my desktop icons weren't responding when i click on them so i restarted my
computer and my desktop went black, i was able to restore the background, but
not the icons.

Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop

hmm yes this happened to me before just after i instaled the latest windows updates. i rebooted, ater windows started loading, the screan just went blank with only my mouse cursor visible. i shut down and booted about 20 minutes later and it fixed itself.
so i have no idea. i suggest trying what i did.
