hi, we have a small win2k domain with a bunch of xp pro workstations.
recently, a user purchased a laptop with vista premium home on it, and
has been using that to work with. she's connecting to a printer shared
from one of the workstations. we connect her by doing the following:
browse to \\her.ip.add.ress. when prompted for a name and password, we
do
then we browse the shares on the machine, right-click the printer, and
chose connect.
this works fine until she reboots. vista doesn't seem to be remembering
her name and password, so we have to delete the printer and reconnect as
above. is there anyway to get vista to remember her credentials so that
we don't have to reconnect each morning? some other way to connect
perhaps? using my usual method and checking the "remember password" box
doesn't seem to be working. i'm not trying to join the laptop to the
domain or anything, i just want it to remember the password
You are using a "Home" version of Vista which acts like XP Home. This is
expected behaviour with Vista Home versions. Create a user on the laptop
with the exact same username and password as a domain user account. You may
have to create a workgroup name the same as the NETBIOS domain name. An
alternative would be to upgrade to Vista Ultimate or replace Vista Home
Premium with Vista Business then join the domain.
