Default Problem mapping Documents to network drive

Hi,

I've just got a new PC running Vista.

Previously had my "My Documents" running on a network share as I accessed it
from my laptop and my desktop at different times. I also have a backup system
running off the share.

Now, I've been able to move the location of the Documents folder via the
locations tab to point to the network share. That all worked fine. "My
Documents" appears as a yellow folder in my personalised folder access area
that has my user name.

Also the "Documents" link on the panel that appears when you click the
"Start" button as it used to be called has changed to be called "My
Documents" and takes me to the network share.

However, when I reboot the network connection is not reestablished. I have
to go and login to the network share again manually. This is despite the fact
that I keep telling Vista to remember the password.

Also, when I do go and relogin to this network share there is then a lag
before the My Documents folder reappears in my "home" directory and a further
lag again before the "Documents" link on the start panel changes to "My
Documents". In the meantime clicking on that "Documents" link does nothing.

What can I do to have everything retore how I want it on start up?

Thanks

Dear Dave,

Did you try adding EnableLinkedConnections to your Windows registry?
Please see http://www.pctipsbox.com/enabled-lin...ons-for-vista/
for details.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies
\System
EnableLinkedConnections = 1 (DWord)

Regards,
Murphy

That's done the trick. Thanks for your help.

Default Re: Problem mapping Documents to network drive

I apologize for reopening this thread instead of starting a new one, but this
is the only thread in Vista General that mentions 'EnableLinkedConnections'
and I am experiencing a similar issue.

Currently I cannot see mapped drives from an elevated command prompt. I
have added the 'EnabledLinkedConnections' DWORD entry with a value of 1 but
it does not seem to be working for me.

I've read when drives are mapped via GPO they are mapped using the elevated
token, but if that were the case I should only see my drives *when* running
an elevated command prompt right? If I issue a net use command from an
elevated prompt all my drives list but show "unavailable" and I cannot access
them. I can only access them via standard user prompt.

Any ideas as to why this option is *not* working for me??
