Power failure

I recently had a power failure during start up of my computer... didn't think
much of it really, happens semi-frequently here in Alaska. As this is a new
computer with Vista installed, I didn't anticipate any problems. I restarted
it after the electricity came back on and waited for the 'disk check' to take
place, like in XP, but it never happened. I then had to unplug it to get it
to shut off since it was a blank screen with no way to restart/reset. I
proceded to get it to start back up, but only in 'safe mode'. Now it won't
start any other way. Why am I not able to start it in 'normal mode'? I'd
really appreciate some help with this. Thanks in advance.

If you had a System Restore point created before the power failure, try
restoring the system to that point in time to see if it corrects the issue.
If that does not work, try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

Looks like Andre had some suggestions on how to fix the problem.
I would also suggest investing in a UPS. They're not really very
expensive. You just need one to power your PC long enough to shut it
down gracefully. It will save a lot of headaches. Look for one that
kicks in if the voltage goes too high or falls too low.

Thanks for the suggestion Andre, this PC didn't come with a Windows DVD
though. I tried several things in safe mode, but it didn't seem to allow you
to do very much. I ended up taking it to a professional to help me get it
back it working order. Thanks for the advice just the same.

Thank you gls858, I did take your advice and invested in a back up power
supply. Comes in quite handy with the periodic outtages we experience up
here. Although Andre's suggestion didn't fix my problem, please note that

So you can only run in safe mode? You may wnat to try to repair your
