I am running vista home premium as an administrator.
When I check or uncheck a box under the MSCONFIG startup tab and press apply
the check/uncheck reverts to its' original state.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Richard,
If you are wanting to disable or enable a startup program, you might
try Option One Method Two in this tutorial to see if that will work
better for you.
I could see two approaches, depending on the cause.
The edit menu in regedt32 will let you change the "Permissions" for the
msconfig key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig
You might also use the Run keys to delete that Value.
One cause might be some Malware re-writing the run key entry after you
remove it.
Either way, I would delete the desired Value in the run keys to see what
happens.
start, type: regedt32
see the keys:
HKEY_Current_User/SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
AND
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

Click on the blue Vista start button and in the
"Start Search" box type: MSCONFIG
When the msconfig icon appears, right-click
on it and select "Run as administrator".
