Re: Movie Maker on Vista Ultimate is crashing! Help!
Hello Carey,
Thanks for your input, I really do appreciate it. I thought that by sending
the detailed error log, it will yield a laser guided answer based on the
error. Have you read the errors captioned below? Is there something in the
error message prompted you that it may be a driver re-install?
Anyway, I did un-install the old driver, used cleaner pro software to wipe
off old driver residues and re-install the latest nVidia driver from their
website a while back. I spoke to nVidia's tech support and re-installed all
my drivers (graphics and bios of motherboard), new vista ultimate install,
etc....
I think based on forums and blogs regading movie maker on vista crashing,
dirver re-installation is the first step. I am a bit beyond that step.

"Fault Module Name: nvd3dum.dll"
It's an nvidia dll that faulted. Since MS signs off on drivers, why are
they signing off on drivers that are faulty?

Thanks for your input Kurt, greatly appreciated. I have also noticed the
following:
"Fault Module Name: StackHash_fd00"
"Fault Module Name: wmvencod.dll"
What's your thoughts on these errors? Thanks!

wmvencod.dll is the Windows Media video encoder.
And from a brief Google search the "StackHash_fd00" fault seems to be
tied to DEP.
Re: Movie Maker on Vista Ultimate is crashing! Help!
What is the format of the source file that u're workin with? Movie Maker
is known to be allergic to certain video file types, atleast on my
system, WMM crashes when I try to work with XVid encoded AVIs.
As you noted, WMV Encoder is failing, so this might be an issue.
Also, be sure to check for broken codecs on ur pc using GSpot Codec
Info Tool [Pls google for it]

Re: Movie Maker on Vista Ultimate is crashing! Help!
I am publishing my movie maker project (wswmm) to a wmv video format to my
hard disk. I pulled out "msinfo32" on this PC and can't find anything that
would cause the system to "black screen" (sudden shutdown) on me. The only
non-Microsoft under:
1) Multimedia/Audio Codecs is ->
"g:\windows\system32\l3codeca.acm | Fraunhofer Institut Integrierte
Schaltungen IIS | Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec | OK |
G:\Windows\system32\L3CODECA.ACM | 1.9.0.401 | 61.00 KB (62,464
bytes) 4/11/2008 5:08 PM"
2) Multimedia/Video Codecs is ->
"g:\windows\system32\iccvid.dll Radius Inc. | OK |
G:\Windows\system32\ICCVID.DLL | 1.10.0.12 | 80.00 KB (81,920 bytes) |
11/2/2006 5:32 AM"
Thanks!

Re: Movie Maker on Vista Ultimate is crashing! Help!
Movie Maker isn't allergic to anything except bad third party codecs. =)
Which specific XVid decoder are you using?
What are the specific fault details for your crash according to the Problem
Reports and Solutions Center control panel: http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket
?
