Microsoft Update no longer working on Vista Ultimate

Since some days Microsoft Update does not work on my PC. When I open
Microsoft Update I don't see any available updates (neither language
packs nor Ultimate Extras)
Some days ago I have installed the englisch language pack on my german
system. Could this have caused the problem?

Any ideas how I can reactivate Microsoft Update
