Media Center periodically scrambles TV Guide

Vista Ultimate SP1 (32-bit) on Dell Precision M6300.

Just when everything is working perfectly, Media Center seemingly randomly
decides to scramble the TV Guide so that channels are our of order and
previously blocked channels become reactivated. The result is chaos and it
takes about 10 minutes to get everything back to normal.

Why is this happening and can it be prevented?
