Kansas City Airport Wifi

I connected my Vista ThinkPad via WiFi at airport and within minutes my
laptop said I had an illegal copy of Vista which immediately shut down and
said I had to call Microsoft etc. etc. This laptop is just a few months
old and so was shocked when this message popped up and of course my Vista
was legal.

So I just closed it up and gave it to my son to fix when I landed in
California. He said oh, you have probably been hit by the microsoft bug
server which he had recently read about some problems with this error
popping up. He fixed it and I took it with me to my next stop in Newport
Beach and low and behold I get the error again.....so I called Microsoft and
after 20 minutes or so I got it working (by this time I was pretty irriated)
but no problems since (I think). My son is putting in a 200G hard drive in
it for me.

I am back in Missouri so hopefully when I get it next week it will be
working fine.

Any one else get this error?

I got my laptop back today and now I got the same error and am on hold
wating for microsoft....what is going on.

gee, I wonder if its possible someone else has registered a copy of
Vista using your product key?

Okay, spent 20 or so minutes to get another zillion numbers to type in to
activate......I hope this nightmare is over......no explanation as to why
this is happening.......guess this hard drive update could be it but I doubt
because my son was using it for a week.

I think it is possible, though unlikely, that someone else is using your
product key. One way to find out might be, while talking to a real person
to activate, to see if they can give you a list of dates on which the key
was activated. If it has happened more times or on different dates than you
recall, ask the person how to get around the problem.
