Default iuser.exe maxes out and ie7 runs ultra slow

When I try to view web pages iuser.exe uses all the cpu time and
internet explorer runs super slow. I have to turn off user account
control in control panel to avoid this or ie is unusable. There is
almost no software on the machine and no ie7 plugins. Any fix please?
This has just started occuring on very new Sony Vaio VGN-UX390N.
