Internet explorer is up and running, but other programs like Windows media
player and AIM are unable to connect to the internet. I dont have a firewall
on, so i cant figure out what's wrong. Hope you can help me.

It does sound like some software is blocking the connection. Run through any
other security software you have installed, and also check the Windows
firewall, to see if you've inadvertently enabled outbound blocking.

Exceptions for Media Player and AIM and try again to connect to the
internet. The firewall may be blocking some of your applications.
