Default Indexing

I'm using a network based harddrive (NSA) and the drive is bussy when my
vistaPC is turned on (and there is traffic to the pc).
I expect it to be some kind of indexing taking place - but i can't find any
hint in control panel/indexing options....

Take a look in Task Manager > Services tab. And you may want to consider
this, it is more convenient:
