Incorrect processor speed

I've recently upgraded my laptop to Vista. When checking out the system
information, Vista is showing that my AMD Athlon 64 processor is running at
798 MHZ, but it should be running at over 2.4 GHZ. I tried upgrading to the
64bit version of Vista but this hasn't helped.

Anyone know why Vista is giving incorrect processor speed?

Ckeck in the bios to be sure the CPU is set properly...the OS *might* be
correct.

If the bios is set correctly though, then of course it's an OS problem

It sounds like you have some sort of speed-step (cpu throttling) going
on. These programs are normally used in laptops to conserve battery
life. Check on your laptop mftr.'s tech support site for any updated
drivers and power management software for Vista.

Mobile processors can slow down to conserve power and heat. This is probably
what is happening. Intel calls it SpeedStep, but I'm not sure what AMD calls
it. You may be able to turn it off in the BIOS, if you want, but if your
needs require the extra speed, it will ramp it up to 2.4.

Check out the Power Management settings that they are not set for
maximum battery economy!

Your processor driver is set to enable Cool & Quiet. That's OK, the
processor will run full speed whenever your software needs it. If you do'nt
like it, you can set Power Management to high performance.
