I have just updated from XP to Vista, but IE7 won't launch. Instead I get the
above error message with the advice that "Windows will close the program and
notify you if a solution is available." I followed (unsuccessfully) the
suggestions in a subsequent troubleshooting feedback: (1) click Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons); (2) Reset IE settings to default. Any furhter
suggestions? --Roger
Hi,
The troublesome program may not show up as an add-on. Disable other
security, privacy, ad-blocking programs to see if one of them is causing the
problem. Any program that interacts with Internet Explorer could be causing
this. The connection with IE may not be obvious, such as Google Desktop.
A firewall will probably not be causing this problem, but turn on the
Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall before disabling a
third-party firewall or security suite.
You might try this test *very* briefly (no more than 15-20 seconds) because
you'll be running with security programs shutdown...
Startup in Safe Mode with Networking. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222 If the problem goes
away, a program that didn't load in Safe Mode is causing it. You will still
have to disable programs until the troublesome program is found.
Hope this helps,
Don

Thanks, Don, but an MS chat from Madras solved the problem by suggesting that
I delete my OmniPage 15 program. When I did, voila: IE launched. I
communicated via MSN Premium, which did not allow her access to my machine.
So it was a good guess or the first on her list of errant programs. So now, I
guess I have to go to ScanSoft for a Vista update for OmniPage. I still can't
get rid of the Norton AntiVirus error message, so I guess I'll just delete
the program and re-dlownload the update that refuses to take hold. Thanks
again. --Roger Kuhn

I had a similar problem with IE giving an error msg "This program has
stopped working"..... This happened almost from the beginning on a clean
machine build.
After looking around for a solution, i gave up and have been running
Mozilla firefox for 3 months now with no crashes.
What's the fault data for your crash according to the Problem Reports and
Solutions Center control panel: http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket
?
