Try this, right click the pearl...I believe that is what they are now
calling the start button, select properties, remove the check from "Store
and display a list of recently opened files, click apply. Then, place a
check next to that option, click apply and ok, open a few files in order
that some things appear on the list, then right click as you have and see if
the selection now appears in the context menu as previously.
I'm assuming previously it did appear. If the fact of the option not
appearing is a relatively recent event, you could try using System Restore
to take your system back to a time when it did appear; All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore. NOTE: System Restore only
restores the system state and registry to a selected point in time, it does
not change your data files though you should always have your data well
backed up.
Again, if this is a recent issue, it's possible the installation of some
program, perhaps one appearing in the context menu is the source of the
issue. Do you recall if you had the selection before the installation of
one of the programs listed in the context menu, WinZip, Photoshop or perhaps
something not on the context menu, but installed recently, before which you
had the selection available to you?

I found I could get the recent documents to clear by: right click on
Start/Properties/Classic Start Menu/Customize/Clear. This seems the closest
analogy to the way it was done in XP. Our choice as to using the Classic
Start Menu or the default Vista Start Menu.

Another Vistaheads MORON posts a reply to thread THAT HAS BEEN DEAD
FOR OVER A YEAR.
Right now I think Vistaheads is leading Vista Forums in the number of
MORONS posting.
