I have this really irritating issue. When i want to rename or move a file
from one folder to another i get the following error message: The action
can't be completed because the file is open in an other program. Close the
file and try again.
I have to click on 'try again' about 20 times before it finally let's me do
what i want to do???

Things like that often happen when you're working with beta software.
I have Windows Vista Ultimate (full version) thank you very much...

Nonetheless, there is a known bug that is apparently slowing down some of
these operations.
Thanks for the note on the apparent bug...Is microsoft working on a fix and
any idea when this will be done? I also noticed that firefox crashes every
few days...seems like Vista still has quite a few bugs!

They are definitely aware of it as it showed up during the beta. It appears
to have something to do with DRM, Digital Rights Management. Apparently,
there is a fix but it's not publicly avaialble because it hasn't been fully
tested yet. I'm sorry, I don't have a link that fully explains how to get
the fix but if you search this forum for posts related to lags in moving and
copying files I'm sure it will turn up.

this so go through his posts might turn up something.
If Firefox is crashing for you, then the bug is in Firefox and Mozilla.org
needs to issue updates to fix the issue.
Every new OS I've seen inevitably has bugs and it takes time for hardware
and software vendors to fully update and deal with their own compatibility
issues even after they have released apps and hardware supposedly compatible
with the new OS. Check out the nVidia website, a lot of their drivers are
still in beta. As development is still ongoing with their drivers and they
have a very wide install base, we will likely be seeing a lot of issues
until they stabilize their drivers.
You can try this hotfix, but you'll have to ring up MS to get it (why do
they do that, it's really annoying and there seems to be no logical pattern
to what fixes are available for download and what you have to ring up for)

Seems i've found a temporary solution for this until MS release the next SP:
Start/Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features
From the left hand menu 'Turn Windows Features on or off'
Scroll down and de-select 'Remote Differential Compression'
Click OK.
