Default HP IP Console switch (kvm) - remote management doesn't install

Let me say up front that this is NOT a Vista problem - it is a problem
with the installer (and perhaps the program) itself. I am only posting
here in the hopes (slim as they might be) that some other poor admin has
run into this problem and figured out a solution.

About a year ago I purchased a HP IP Console Switch.

Works great - I love it.

It came with a software program so that I could connect remotely to the
KVM from my office (or home) and have console access to my servers.
That worked great too.

But now I have this nice, new PC running Vista Enterprise 64. The
program won't install. I called HP's tech support guys (who barely knew
anything about the KVM) and all they said was "uh, I guess it doesn't
run on Vista". The sad thing is, I suspect the program will run fine -
it's just that the installer package they used doesn't understand Vista.

So how is your relationship with the HP guys? Got the ear of any of the
higher-ups that can tell their software guys to repackage the installer
so that it will work on Vista?

Fyi, if you need it - here is a link to download the program.

Note that the date is less than a year ago (meaning "it ain't that old").

Hi Chris,

Just some thoughts:

- Sometimes it helps to right click the installer file and use 'run as
administrator'
- While you can run a program in compatibility mode, you can't install it
using this feature
- If the software includes device drivers that are installed to the system,
they will have to be signed ones certified for Vista x64 as it will accept
nothing else, you can't use 32-bit ones, nor can you used unsigned ones
(assuming you can even find them)

I suspect you will need to wait until they update this utility.

I found the win32\setup.exe needed to have it's compatability set to
'Windows XP (service Pack 2)'.

Further more I couldn't do this until the file was on one of my local
drives.

So the proceedure was. Copy setup.exe to C:\temp\

Right click and set the compatibility (using the compatibility
tab:tongue then just install as per normal.

It seems to be just the installer that isn't compatible with vista,
once the software is installed it works without any modification.
