In Windows XP, I used to use sound recorder to create, and edit my wav files.
The Sound recorder in Windows Vista Home Premium works to create wma files,
but doesn't seem to support wav files anymore. How can I edit my wav files
without having to download something extra that I would have to pay for?

If your PC has a sound card, that may have come bundled with software
utilities. One of those is often a WAV editor. Here the Creative
Audigy 4 has one.
Look over the installed programs; there may be surprises. Or check the
disk that came with the card.

Type "free WAV editor" into the search box

Question then about Audacity. I've tried it a bit but got frustrated with
the way it saved files. To save a wav file you must use the export command.
But the frustrating thing is that it does not by default save to the same
folder as the file you originally loaded.
I often want to load, normalize and save over the original file.
Am I missing something?
