Default Help - Manually removing applications from Vista

Hoping that someone can offer some advice on this.

I've installed an application on Vista that doesn't run properly. I've
found the correct vista upgrade for the software but when I run the upgrade
I get a message that the older version must be uninstalled first. The
problem is that when I run the uninstaller, I get a message that the
software is not compatible with Vista and it doesn't get removed. Is there
a way to manual remove the program? I'm thinking that registry surgery will
be required - I've fine with that but I'm not clear on how to find all the
registry entries in question. Thanks for any advice.

Contact the tech support for the program for specific info on how to remove
it. There is no set procedure for where to look to hunt down all the files
and registry settings for an installed program. The program tech support is
the best resource.

Hi Vulcan,

Rock's way is the safest, but if your desparate you can use the
registry.

Warning though, make sure what you delete is for this application only.
Otherwise you're going to have problems with something else that may
only be fixed with a reinstall of Vista.

1st delete the the program out of Program Files and anywhere else you
know it installed at. Do a very thorough search on C:\ drive with the
name on the folder(for that app program) in Program files and delete
anything that relates to it.

Now open regedit. Click on the EDIT tab & click on FIND. Type in the
same folder name(for that app program) then just hit FIND NEXT after
each time it finds a entry and you delete it.

EX: Ad-Aware, Program Files Folder name for this is Lavasoft. So
you'll search for "Lavasoft" in the search & FIND/FIND NEXT areas.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
